“You’re a spook, aren’t you?”

“A spook?” She almost laughed. “I’m with—”

Am I really going to admit the truth to him? “I’m an agent at MI6,” she said slowly. Some strange weight, which felt like a hundred or so kilos, lifted from her shoulders.

Jake blinked a few times before brushing past her. He grabbed a navy-blue kettle and brought it to the sink. “Coffee?” he grumbled.

Well, that wasn’t the reaction she’d been expecting.

“Oh. Um, yes, please.” She preferred tea, but she wasn’t about to argue.

“You gonna stay standing all morning, or would you care to sit?” He turned on the burner and placed the kettle down before facing her.

She tried to fight the smile that pulled at the edges of her lips. “I didn’t know if you’d want me to get comfortable.”

His broad shoulders relaxed. “I don’t, but you came a hell of a long way. And since the agents let you waltz up here, I’m guessing they don’t think you’re a threat.”

He was taking this better than she’d thought. She hadn’t been sure what to expect of a man who’d lost part of his life. Well, his memories.

“So, you’ll hear me out?” Of course, he didn’t have much of a choice. The orders had come from high-ups in both their governments. Although the Americans still hadn’t come clean about Italy—about anything, actually—but they wanted her and Jake to work together.

Jake lowered his head and placed his thumb and middle finger at his temples. Did he have a headache or was she the headache? “Now, I didn’t say that.” His Southern voice wasn’t twangy like in some of the films she’d seen. No, it was smooth. Just as sexy as she remembered.

Gone was the man Jake Summers had become; in his place, there were only questions . . .

After having been abducted from an FBI operation, Jake Summers wakes up the victim of an explosion in London a week later. He is perhaps the sole witness to the start of a massive terrorist plot, but his memory of the event–and of the last twelve years of his life–have been erased.

Jake’s not sure if he can be the man he once was to help the government stop another attack. But when MI6 agent Alexa Ryan shows up needing his help, Jake begins to recall some of his past. And some of those memories include her.

Alexa Ryan has been keeping secrets since the day she became an MI6 agent, and the life of a spy–no social life, no love life–is beginning to wear. When she’s ordered to share her true identity with the one man she didn’t think she’d ever see again–a man who doesn’t even remember her–she’s conflicted about how much to reveal about their past. For more than a year she has been struggling to take down a notorious cyber-terrorist group, whose leader seeks retribution against America and Britain. Alexa doesn’t have time to work a new operation involving Jake . . . even though everything inside of her begs to be near him.

When Alexa discovers a link between her cyber case and Jake’s disappearance, the two agents are drawn together to fight a common enemy. But will Jake reclaim his memories in time to stop the attack? And will Alexa be able to open her heart once more to the man she had thought was lost?

This is a standalone romantic thriller.

Teaser from The Final Goodbye

ben teaser1.jpg

**TEASER (unedited) from my upcoming novel, The Final Goodbye, the last book in the Hidden Truths series*

Once outside Nate’s door, her heart crawled up into her throat at the sight of someone inside.

What if he was the killer, and he was there looking for something?

But . . . the man was holding a framed photo. Although his back was to her, his head was tipped forward as if in mourning.

He had black hair that brushed up against the collar of his blazer. Long legs covered in dark slacks, and broad shoulders filled out the jacket he wore.

She worked up the nerve and took a small step into the room, her heart pounding so loud it was in her ears.

“You should leave. Ralph wouldn’t want you in here.” Her pulse continued to quicken as a large hand set the frame back on top of the dresser.

“Been a long time, Ri.”

At the sound of the husky voice, she stumbled back into the hallway.

It was as if she was in quicksand now, and she was sinking fast.

‘Friends, forever? No matter what,’ she’d said to Ben when they were seventeen.

‘Ri, nothing could tear us apart. You, me, and Nate—they’ll have to bury us together,’ he’d answered.

No . . . “Don’t call me that.” She hated that her voice trembled as the words nearly bled from her lips.

Her eyes squeezed closed, and her hands seized hold of her stomach as if she might fall forward and throw up.

“It’s Dr. Carpenter, now,” she said wryly after a minute of silence swept through the room, almost cooling her now flushed skin.

She couldn’t open her eyes because then this would become real.

Ben Logan would be standing in front of her.

“Doctor, huh?” His voice grew closer, and she wanted to edge back even more, but she couldn’t get herself to move because of that quicksand.
